So the holidays are well and truly over. We would like to wish you a new year. If you are planning on moving house then the best way to kick off the new year is a good clear out.

When it comes to selling your home it's a really good idea to make a start and have a good clear out. This ensures your home is clutter free for showings and gives you a chance to get rid of anything you no longer need.

We recommend doing one room at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. If you have a lot of stuff then perhaps focus on a section at a time in one room until that room is finished.

Separate items into things to throw away, donate and sell. Who knows you may make some good money from what you have to sell.

Try not to hoard anything. If you really don't need something or haven't used it in years then it's time to get rid.

When it comes to getting rid of clutter, not only will you be saving yourself time but it also has other benefits too.

It actually puts you in a better mood and clears your mind. Have you ever just sat and looked at a particular area that is cluttered, it almost feels like it's closing in on you. You know it needs organising but you don't feel like it. It may even make you feel stressed. Once you start seeing progress, most likely you'll feel like you're calmer and perhaps even sleep better.

It's also good for helping you let go of the past. Perhaps you have items or photos that remind you of a difficult time. Maybe you don't even realise it, you feel down but don't know why. Get rid of anything that makes you feel negative or brings back bad memories.

Lastly if your looking for a new home perhaps your junk is holding you back, the thought of moving all that crap stopping you from really finding a new place. So the sooner you get rid of that junk, the sooner you can move into your new home.

So no more procrastinating, clear your home, clear your mind and get ready for a great 2019.
