How To Enjoy The Last Few Weeks Off School With The Kids

If you are out of ideas of how to entertain the kids for the last part of the summer holidays then Marbella is the best place to be.  With this beautiful weather the easiest thing to do is get outdoors, just remember your sun cream and plenty of water.  Try to keep in the shade during the hottest part of the day.

The best thing to do is get down to the beach and if you have smaller children at the far end of the paseo (near the fisherman's port) they have a children's play area.

Most places are open late this time of year as its so hot people prefer to go out in the evening.   Tivoli World which is perhaps the largest theme park on the coast is open till 1 o clock in the morning.  Perfect for tiring out the little ones enabling you and them to get a lie in in the morning.

If you are looking for all day kinda fun plus a good way to stay cool then try the biggest aqua park on the coast.  Aqualand in Torremolinos.

There is also a aqua park in Mijas, Aquamijas.

If your kids are animal lovers then there are plenty of places to take them.  Perhaps the most famous one is selwo.  They have an animal park with lions etc.  They also have a marina with dolphins etc but it is in a different town.  If you want something a bit more scary then try the crocodile park.

If your kids are older then they may want something a bit more action packed like zip lining or paintballing.

For those of you that are not scared of heights try the cable car in Benalmedena.

So as you can see there are plenty of things to do and you can get discounts if you book for multiple parks so look out for ticket packs on their website.

If that seems too action packed then stick to relaxing on the beach or your swimming pool.

San Juan

In case you missed it (hopefully you didn't because then you would have missed out) last night was Noche de San Juan.  Where all the South Spain Properties team went on the beach for a fun filled night.  In case you hadn't heard, Mahiki Beach Club has opened up directly in front of our office.  If you have been to Mayfair, London Mahiki is a top celebrity hangout.  La Sala group has worked hard to expand to Marbella.  So if you are lucky and manage to get a reservation here, you may find yourself rubbing shoulders with one of your favourite celebrities.

Anyway back to last night. San Juan night was as warm as ever with all the fire on the beach! San Juan night is one of the most important Spanish celebrations, with people getting together and jumping over the fires, celebrating summer.   In ancient times it was believed that when the sun turned in summer that evil spirits would roam the earth freely, the fires are said to protect you.  San Juan marks the beginning of summer and on that note we wish you all a happy summer this year wherever you are. For us in Marbella last night was great fun with weather being around 30 degrees on the beach at night when the celebration started. Beaches and promenade was packed with people some dressed up and some dressed for the beach and swimming. You may ask why? Swimming at night? Yes at midnight in San Juan it's a custom to swim in the sea and wash the badness away. The promenade of marbella including new beach club Mahiki beach was great with live music and entertainment with people dancing with fire.  At midnight lots of people came out from the beach club, lit lanterns and sent them off in the sea to make a wish.  There was also similar shows and dances in Soleo, beach club of Hotel El Fuerte, and Amare beach club in front of hotel Amare (used to be called Miramar.)

Catching up with friends and family on the beach, drinking, eating, swimming, dancing, live music, sending lanterns to the sea, that was all happening last night in marbella. Summer is back in Marbella and with some of the best beaches, clubs, golf courses, restaurants and great people around here we are set not just for another wonderful summer but the rest of the year too.

We didn't take too many photos as we were busy having fun, but here is a collage of the dancers with fire. Sorry it's not too clear, maybe one too many cocktails 🍹☺️

Semana Santa

This week is Semana Santa (holy week) in Spain and this is when you celebrate Easter.

It is the biggest holy celebration of the year and you will see many processions.  The best ones being in Andalucia, you will see people in big hoods, carrying a cross at the front, with floats with either a Jesus or Mary statue. They will have live bands playing religious music.

A lot of people will be on holiday and eating out. Thursday is Maundy Thursday and Friday is Good Friday, both are holiday days in Spain and most shops etc will be closed, a perfect excuse to relax and take time off working!!

Enjoy your week everyone.

Andalucia Day 28th February

Tomorrow is Día de Andalucía (Andalucia day) so you will find most places closed. On 28th February 1980 the people of Andalucia decided it should become autonomous.  It was only accepted as an historic nationality in 2006. It looks to be good weather so why not relax on the beach or go for a nice walk.  Even just chill on your own terrace with a nice glass of wine.  Play a round of golf or enjoy a bbq with friends.

Júzcar

Before we get into the village of Júzcar, tomorrow is 3 kings day (Los Reyes Magos) and it will be the last day to celebrate the Christmas season.  All the shops will be closed including La Cañada so be sure to buy anything you need today.  In Puerto Deportivo Marbella will be the last day of the Christmas market.  Tonight on the streets will be the 3 Kings parade.  It will go down the following streets:

Avda. Severo Ochoa (La Zambomba) Avda. Ramón y Cajal, Avda. Ricardo Soriano, and finishing in Plaza Monseñor Rodrigo Bocanegra (EL Pirulí).

OK so now we have the pictures of the village Júzcar also known as the smurf village because of the blue painted houses.  It was painted blue to film the movie Smurfs 3D.  It is about 1 hour drive from Marbella and these are the photos we took of the Christmas lights there 2016:

Welcome to October

keepcalmstudio-com-crown-keep-calm-its-almost-halloween-www-ssp-bz

So it's that time of year where the ghouls come out to play.  Have you got your Halloween costume sorted yet?  If you are going out in a group maybe you can have a theme like you all dress up as people from a certain movie.  Here in Spain Halloween is kept more traditional where people dress up as witches, ghosts etc.  They do not have sexy police people or costumes like that here so that's a good thing to remember if you are invited to a party - double check what others are going as so you are not the odd one out.

Don't forget your pumpkins and now you can even buy pumpkin carving kits to make it easier to carve out a face or design on your pumpkin.  Remember to stock up on sweets for those trick or treat kids if you are going to be at home.  Better than getting an egg on your window!

What scary movies will you be watching or maybe avoiding, for some people this time of year is their favourite.

Some people love the brown autumn leaves and wrapping up in their winter woollies.  If you are not a fan of that then Marbella is the place for you!   While a lot of other places are full into Autumn mode we are still seeing temperatures of 30 degrees.  The beaches are still full of people so if you are sick of your grey autumn skies then Marbella is perfect for buying your new home or holiday home; and we are the perfect people to help you find it!! Pop along to our office on Paseo Maritimo underneath Hotel el Fuerte in Marbella city center so we can make your halloween less scary and more sunny!!

Welcome 2016

Well today is a holiday in Spain and it will be the last holiday for Christmas before everything is back to normal.

So now we welcome 2016 and we hope it is a successful year to all of you.

Have you made any resolutions?  Here are a few tips to help you stick to them:

  1. Write them down and stick them to a mirror or somewhere you will see to help remind you.
  2. Discuss your resolutions with family and friends so you can help boost each other when you are feeling like giving up.
  3. Think about why you have made these resolutions (what is your end goal).  If you've made it just for the sake of making one then you probably wont follow through.  If you have a clear idea what your end goal is then that will help to push you to acheive it.
  4. Make sure your resolution is atually manageable, not just something you want to happen but can't actually acheive.
  5. If it is a big goal, like losing a certain amount of weight for example, spit it up into smaller steps. Set out meal plans, set time aside to work out.  Splitting it up will make it easier to reach than just hoping it will happen without even planning properly.
  6. Treat yourself.  When you hit small milestones to your big overall goal, give yourself a treat to motivate you to keep going.
  7. Ask for help, if you are unsure on how to acheive your goals then just ask others for advice and help.
  8. Keep your goal fun.  If you have decided to join the gym, usually after a couple of weeks people give up.  If exercise is your goal then try different methods to keep you interested.  Try dance class, yoga, kick boxing - It doesn't always have to be treadmills and weight machines.
  9. Reevaluate your goals as you go.  Are you still wanting the same thing or have you chanced your mind and need to move in a new direction. Are you on the right path or do you need to motivate yourself again.
  10. Lastly don't be afraid to give up if you need to.  If you have decided to exercise more but are in pain then you need to stop pushing yourself.  Either pull back and do less or stop altogether.  Your health is more important than sticking to the resolution. You can always change your resolution to something else you feel you can improve.
So there you are 10 tips to help you stick to your resolution.  Do you think you can do it?

Best of luck and let's hope we can all acheive our dreams in 2016.
